Elders in Mount Kenya have mapped out a course for former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, just one week after she was ousted.
Elders from the communities of Kikuyu, Embu, Meru, and Kamba talked about Gachagua’s overthrow and urged Kenyans to help him through the transition.
They encouraged Mr. Gachagua to be proud of his accomplishments during his two years as Deputy President, despite betrayal. For the sake of Kenyans, they asked him to back Ruto’s government.
“We love you all,” the leaders said, expressing their support for President William Ruto, the newly appointed Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, and the outgoing Deputy President. All of you are our kids. You are ours, the GEMA community has said.
Gachagua warned that betrayal is not tolerated by the inhabitants of Mount Kenya prior to his removal: Our people are extremely unforgiving if you betray them, and they hate betrayal. Gachagua urged President Ruto to avoid going down that route.
It has been stated that Gachagua was being excluded from the center of power even though he was the second-in-command of the Kenya Kwanza administration.
