The Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI) has congratulated Professor Mansur Ibrahim Sokoto on receiving the esteemed traditional title of “Dan Masanin Sokoto.”
The announcement, effective November 2, 2024, was made by the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji (Dr.) Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, in recognition of Professor Sokoto’s contributions to education, Islamic scholarship, and societal development. “Dan Masanin Sokoto,” which translates to “the Most Knowledgeable,” honors Sokoto’s impact within the academic and Muslim communities.
Professor Sokoto, a respected professor of Hadith at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, is noted for his prolific work in Islamic sciences, including Hadith, history, and jurisprudence. He has also established prominent Islamic centers in Sokoto, such as the An-Nur Islamic Centre and Makka International Academy, demonstrating his commitment to upholding Islamic values and education.
With an academic career spanning over 27 years, Professor Sokoto has also played a significant advisory role in Nigeria’s non-interest banking sector, particularly as a member of the Advisory Committee of Experts at Sun Trust Bank Nigeria Limited.
Ambassador Emmanuel Obi Okafor, AANI President, expressed the association’s pride, stating, “We stand in solidarity with Professor Sokoto and celebrate this remarkable achievement.” The AANI also extended gratitude to the Sultan for bestowing this honor and anticipates the upcoming turbaning ceremony.
