Avelo Airlines Opens Second Connecticut Base At Bradley Airport

Avelo Airlines kicked off service from its newest base, starting four routes from Bradley International Airport (BDL) in Windsor Locks, Connecticut.

BDL is located between Hartford, Connecticut, and Springfield, Massachusetts. Avelo is basing two Boeing 737NG aircraft at the airport and will open its first two international routes from there.

BDL is located about 55 miles north of Tweed New Haven Airport (HVN), the Connecticut airport that serves as Avelo’s largest base. Avelo bases eight aircraft and 250 employees at HVN, from which it serves 27 destinations.

The airline, founded in 2021, said it is viewing the two airports as a “regional Connecticut base,” adding: “This expansion represents further investment in the region and enables Avelo to significantly broaden its … air service across Connecticut.”

The airline on Nov. 7 began flying from BDL 2X-weekly to four destinations: Concord and Wilmington in North Carolina, as well as Daytona Beach and Lakeland in Florida. Later this month, it will commence 2X-weekly flights between BDL and Houston Hobby. Avelo’s headquarters are in Houston.

From Nov. 16, Avelo will make its first scheduled international flight from BDL to Montego Bay, Jamaica. From Nov. 20, the carrier will open service between BDL and Cancun, Mexico. Both routes will be flown 2X-weekly.

When the international routes start, Avelo will serve 52 destinations spanning 23 states, Puerto Rico, Jamaica and Mexico.
