Fans were disheartened by the announcement
The last episode in the latest series of BBC Gardener’s World will air tonight, November 8. The long-running gardening programme first broadcast in January 1968 and has been on screens ever since.
The programme’s main presenter, Monty Don has taken to social media reminding fans of the show to tune into the final episode before its annual winter break. He said: “The days may be getting shorter, but there’s still plenty to do at Longmeadow. Join us for our last show of the series this Friday at 8pm on BBC Two.”
The image shared showed Monty with a spade and in a pair of wellies alongside his dog, Ned. Monty Don’s interview on BBC Radio 2 last month was interrupted by Ned. The Gardeners’ World presenter was speaking to Jo Whiley and Zoe Ball on a video call when his dog Ned bounced up to join him.

Monty was explaining the Chelsea garden to Jo and Zoe when Ned jumped up and placed his paws on Monty. Excited by the surprise guest, Zoe said: “Monty’s dog. Sorry, I’m just really excited, Ned has appeared on the screen next to Monty. This is just delightful. ‘Monty Dog’ as we’re now calling him.”
Fans of the TV garden writer were quick to reply to the post. One disappointed fan said: ” I’ve been dreading this day. I know you need to rest and enjoy yourselves, but hurry back. Going to re- watch the whole series to get me through the winter months.
Another disheartened fan replied: “I can’t believe it’s already the end of the season. I got so comfortable in these episodes I feel like it was just last week the season started!!”
A further comment read: “Oh it makes me so sad at the end of the season. I end up missing you all so much that I binge-watch the season again every January.”
The broadcaster often thrills fans with appearances from his adorable dog Ned. One fan said: “Love you Monty and Ned. Thank you for your beautiful work” another added “Saddest day of the year! “
