Buckingham Palace issues Kate Middleton update as Princess of Wales to appear in public
The Princess of Wales will join King Charles, Prince William and other members of the Royal Family at Remembrance events in London on consecutive days this weekend
Kate Middleton is to attend two Remembrance events this weekend, Buckingham Palace has announced.
The Princess of Wales, 42, will join King Charles, Prince William and other members of the Royal Family at the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday and the national commemoration at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday.
The announcement marks the next significant step in Kate’s gradual return to public royal duties after she revealed eight months ago she had an undisclosed form of cancer. In a video Kate released in September, she revealed she had finished her chemotherapy treatment, and spoke of how she was “looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months”.
But she added her focus was “doing what I can to stay cancer free”.
This weekend will be the first time Kate has carried out two consecutive days of public official engagements since the start of the year.
The Queen’s attendance over the weekend will, however, be subject to medical advice nearer the time. Camilla, 77, is unwell with a chest infection and was forced to pull out of engagements earlier this week.
In an interview earlier this week, William, 42, revealed how 2024 had been “brutal” and the “probably been the hardest year in my life” with both Kate and the 75-year-old King being diagnosed with cancer. The prince’s comments were made to British media covering his four-day visit to South Africa, which ended on Thursday, to stage his Earthshot Prize in Cape Town.
When asked about his year, William replied: “Honestly, it’s been dreadful. It’s probably been the hardest year in my life. So, trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult.
“But I’m so proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done.
“But from a personal family point of view, it’s been, yeah, it’s been brutal.”
The King’s cancer diagnosis was announced in February and he has been receiving treatment for an undisclosed form of the disease as an outpatient, but will be returning to fuller duties and greater overseas travel next year.
