Travel experts at Miss Tourist have taken a look at average summer and winter temperatures and say that the fact Telford is on the chilly side is a good thing.

The company has delved into data from the Met Office to analyse various metrics, including average annual, summer, and winter temperatures, days of air frost, and altitude to determine the best cities for a refreshing ‘coolcation’ in the UK.

They say that Telford’s average annual temperature of 9.82C contributes to its ‘year-round coolcation appeal’.

Miss Tourist has given Telford a ‘Coolcation Score’ of 80 out of 100 for its average summer temperature of 13.91C and 55.11 days of air frost.

Shropshire’s golden cool spot appears last the Top 10 Best ‘Coolcation’ Cities in the UK, with Aberdeen, Glasgow, Durham, Rochdale, Chesterfield, Stoke-on-Trent, Dundee, Bradford, and Swindon ahead of it in the list.

Yulia Saf, chief executive and Founder of Miss Tourist, said: “As climate change impacts traditional holiday spots, destinations with cooler climates are becoming increasingly attractive for travellers seeking comfort and unique experiences year-round.

“Telford stands out as an excellent ‘coolcation’ destination, offering visitors a chance to enjoy outdoor activities and natural beauty in comfortable conditions.”

This area is known for The Wrekin and Ironbridge Gorge, which are perfect for ‘coolcation’ seekers.

When visiting, the company recommends exploring the local attractions, or heading to Ironbridge to experience riverside walks.

A spokesperson for the company said: “We encourage travellers to explore these cooler destinations for their next trip, regardless of the season.

“This region provides great opportunities for outdoor activities and sightseeing in comfortable temperatures, offering a practical alternative to traditional holiday spots affected by rising temperatures.”
