Liverpool face Aston Villa this weekend in what is another tough test for Arne Slot’s side.

Liverpool are sitting pretty at the top of the league right now, but, as we’ve seen in recent years, they will have to be almost punch perfect until the end of the season if they want to be champions.

A home game against a team like Aston Villa is the type of match you have to be winning if you want to become champions, and writing in his column on the BBC, Chris Sutton has shared his prediction for how this game will go.

The pundit reckons that Liverpool will come out on top here, claiming that Aston Villa have looked decidedly average as of late.

Chris Sutton predicts Liverpool vs Aston Villa

Sutton shared his verdict on how this match will go.

The pundit says that he simply can’t see past a Liverpool win.

“It was such a lethargic performance by Aston Villa against Club Brugge on Wednesday. I was expecting far more from them,” Sutton wrote.

“Villa will need much more intensity if they are going to compete at Anfield, but the form Arne Slot’s side are in means I can’t see past a home win for this one.

“There is a lot of speculation about Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool, but what isn’t in doubt is his quality and he showed it again with his finish against Brighton last week.”

Liverpool’s form compared to Aston Villa’s

Sutton reckons that Liverpool will come out on top here, and the formbook would suggest he may not be wrong.

Indeed, in their last five league games, Villa and Liverpool have had contrasting fortunes.

Liverpool are unbeaten in their last five, picking up important wins against the likes of Brighton and Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Villa have stumbled as of late, winning just one of their last five games.

Mohamed Salah has been praised for his recent form, and it wouldn’t be at all shocking if Salah was, once again, the difference-maker in this game.
