Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos and ambassadors of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries in Cyprus discussed bilateral relations and cooperation, the embassy of Kuwait said in a press release on Friday.

The meeting centered on Cyprus and GCC countries as well as their efforts and will to strengthen their relations.

A team of ministers and government officials attended a luncheon ceremony extended by Kuwait’s Ambassador Abdullah Al Khorafi, held in honour of the new ambassadors of friendly countries: Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador Fawaz bin Abdulrahman Al Shubaili, Qatar’s Ambassador Yousef Sultan Laram and Ambassador of Egypt Mohammed Shouki Za’oua.

Al Khorafi expressed his “heartfelt wishes to them to reconcile their work in the interests of their states and to promote common Arab positions on the important regional and international issues.”

On the sidelines of the ceremony, Kombos met with the Ambassadors of the GCC countries, and they addressed the region’s issues “and the distinct relations between the Republic of Cyprus and the Arab countries, as well as on the level and depth of bilateral relations and cooperation between Cyprus and the GCC countries, and the common efforts and desire to strengthen and upgrade those relations to higher levels.”

Kombos attended the event along with Energy Minister George Papanastasiou, foreign ministry permanent secretary Andreas Kakouris, police chief Themistos Arnaoutis, director of the consular and Schengen department Philippa Karsera Christodoulides, director of the foreign political affairs department Salina Shambos, and chief of protocol Koula Sofianou.

Senior officials of the foreign ministry attended the event as well as all Arab ambassadors accredited to the Republic of Cyprus.
