Christopher Bonsu Baah has turned down Brighton & Hove Albion to join KRC Genk.

That’s according to Genk technical director Dimitri De Condé, and he revealed this during the Terril Talks podcast. His comments are relayed by Voetbal Nieuws.

The outlet says the Jupiler Pro League side paid €5.2m to buy the winger from Norwegian side Sarpsborg 08 FF in July 2023. Brighton had offered close to double this amount to secure his services.

Wouter Vrancken was in charge when the 19-year-old arrived at the Belgian club. The former manager was pleased with the player’s decision to pick Genk over the Seagulls.

De Condé has been at Genk since March 2015, and he analysed his time at the club on Terril Talks. This is when he revealed Brighton’s failure to acquire the Ghanian’s signature. Royale Union Saint-Gilloise had also looked at Christopher Bonsu Baah.

“Bonsu Baah was on our radar, but an agent quickly called me and told us not to try. Brighton showed interest and he talked about amounts of €10m. There was also talk of Union SG,” he said.

The attacker managed two goals and two assists from 47 games in all competitions last season. He has two goals and three assists from 14 matches this season.

Christopher Bonsu Baah had earlier claimed he made the “right choice” by snubbing the Premier League side for Genk. The director is now pleased the player rejected Brighton to join his side.
