Eagle eyed royal fans have spotted something very different about Meghan Markle‘s poppy.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle appeared in a new short video clip together as they discussed the importance of addressing digital violence to prioritise children’s safety in today’s connected world.

The video, which was shared on Archewell official social media channels, showed the couple standing side by side as they spoke to the camera at their Montecito home.

Both the duke, 40, and the duchess, 43, were wearing poppies in the video as a mark of respect for fallen soldiers ahead of Remembrance Day in the UK.

However, royal watchers were quick to notice that the Duchess of Sussex was wearing a more unusual poppy compared to her husband Prince Harry.

One royal fan wrote on X: “Harry is wearing a British poppy but I don’t think Meghan is.”

Another observer said: “There is no leaf on Meghan’s poppy.”

While Harry’s poppy was the traditional symbol recognised in the UK, Meghan’s poppy had a different look with a black centre and no leaf. This is similar to the poppies once worn by Queen Camilla and Princess Kate in 2022.

According to the BBC, poppies don’t have leaves in nature which meant neither did the original Royal British Legion’s poppy.

However, in the 1960s a leaf was introduced for the first time as an optional extra. From 1995, poppies with leaves included were made available for the first time, with these now being among the most popular poppies worn for Remembrance Day.

The poppy worn by Meghan Markle in the video is also similar to the Canadian poppies, which are made in Toronto.

These have four petals with a black centre and no leaf, similar to the ones worn in Scotland.

While the couple were wearing their poppies in the video appearance, they will not be returning to the UK for Remembrance Day, an event close to Harry’s heart after he served in the Army as a young man.

Other members of the Royal Family will attend at The Cenotaph in London, an event the prince used to attend when he was a working royal.
