Everyone of us swore to protect the constitution, we Won’t allow Fubara break it– Martins Amaewhule
Honourable Martins Amaewhule, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, has strongly criticized Governor Siminalayi Fubara for allegedly disregarding the nation’s laws. Amaewhule, a key figure in the legislative faction aligned with former governor Nyesom Wike, raised concerns about the governor’s conduct, which he views as inconsistent with the expectations placed on leaders in public office. According to Amaewhule, Fubara’s actions have set a troubling precedent by seemingly placing himself above the law while demanding compliance from others.
In a video posted on Symfoni’s YouTube channel, Amaewhule emphasized that any leader who disregards the rule of law undermines the very foundations of governance in Rivers State. He expressed the belief that the governor’s failure to comply with legal standards endangers not only the integrity of the state government but also the broader legal framework of the nation. Amaewhule warned that allowing such behavior to go unchecked could result in a dangerous erosion of the rule of law.
Amaewhule called on his fellow lawmakers to join forces in addressing what he described as a growing threat to the legal structure in Rivers State. He pointed out that Fubara’s actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for the legal obligations that come with public office. For Amaewhule, this attitude cannot be allowed to persist, as it sends the wrong message about the accountability of public officials to the people they serve.
The Speaker reminded his colleagues of their constitutional duty to protect and uphold the laws of Nigeria. He emphasized that the Rivers State House of Assembly must be committed to ensuring that the Constitution is followed and that no one, including the governor, is above the law. Amaewhule underscored that this responsibility should not be compromised, even in the face of threats or pressure from the executive branch.
Amaewhule further stated that as lawmakers, it is essential to stand firm in their resolve to protect the Constitution and the interests of the public. He called for unity among legislators in resisting any attempts to undermine the rule of law, stressing that their mandate as representatives of the people is contingent on their commitment to the legal and constitutional order of Nigeria.
He made it clear that Fubara’s behavior was unacceptable and must be addressed swiftly. He reiterated that the governor, like all public officials, must abide by the laws of the land, and he vowed to continue fighting to ensure that the Constitution is upheld in Rivers State. According to Amaewhule, this struggle is not just about political power but about safeguarding the fundamental principles of democracy and justice.
According to him, “It’s quite a shame, and it’s an aberration that must not be allowed to continue. We must continue to take steps to stop his actions, because each and every one of us swore to the constitution to protect it.”
