Julian Nagelsmann’s squad for Germany’s matches against Bosnia and Hungary had a surprising special guest in the first instance, who disappeared from the list as soon as the German Football Association realised the mistake. Many social media users noticed that 20-year-old Latvian Dario Sits had nothing to do with the squad.
The Parma player, who is on loan at Helmond Sport in the Dutch second division, initially appeared among the strikers selected by Julian Nagelsmann. But seeing his name alongside those of Serge Gnabry, Kai Havertz, Tim Kleindienst and Deniz Undav surprised fans, as he is a relatively unknown player with no connection to the German nation.
The federation apologised that it had been a technical error in their database, but fans were quite surprised by the error, as Sits, besides being a modest player, has never even played in the country before. He is a Parma youth player and, after a first loan spell at SPAL, he has been with Helmond Sport since the summer and has been performing well, but in the low-level competition of the Dutch silver division.
The mistake made by the German Football Association comes on top of another surreal situation experienced by Dario Sits in a previous international engagement. In the programme of a match of the Latvian national team against Ireland, the name that appeared did not correspond to his own. Dario Sits was called Dario Shit in a mistake that was not the only one, as that programme was full of mistakes among the Latvian players.
While Germany will play Bosnia and Hungary in this international window, Latvia will play North Macedonia and Armenia with Sits in the squad.
