Godwin Obaseki Reacts As Olusegun Obasanjo And Patience Jonathan Joined Him To Commission Projects

On Wednesday, Godwin Obaseki, the Executive Governor of Edo State, shared an update on his verified Facebook page about the commissioning of several key projects in Benin City, including the newly rebuilt Stella Obasanjo Hospital. The ceremony was attended by notable figures such as former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, former First Lady Dame Patience Jonathan, former Sokoto State Governor Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, and former Edo State Governors Chief Lucky Igbinedion and Chief Odigie Oyegun, along with other distinguished leaders.

Obaseki expressed his gratitude to all those who attended the event, emphasizing the significance of the newly upgraded 250-bed Stella Obasanjo Hospital, which now boasts expanded facilities, including a Crèche and Food Court at the State Secretariat Complex. He highlighted that the hospital, originally founded by Chief Igbinedion, had deteriorated after his tenure, prompting the current administration to undertake a complete overhaul.

He noted that, with the hospital’s 20-hectare expanse, the state government has invested in its renovation to enhance medical services, particularly after it served as a treatment and isolation center during the COVID-19 pandemic. Obaseki also pointed out that, after the decommissioning of the Central Hospital, key medical services were relocated to the newly renovated Stella Obasanjo Hospital, which is now a world-class healthcare facility.

Additionally, Obaseki touched upon broader efforts to improve Edo State’s healthcare system, noting the establishment of a robust primary healthcare agency. As part of his administration’s focus on healthcare, he mentioned that 60 clinics across the state have been renovated, with the goal of ensuring every ward has access to quality primary healthcare services.

Obaseki’s statement has garnered significant attention, with many supporters and followers praising the advancements in the state’s healthcare infrastructure, positioning Edo as a future hub for medical tourism. Obaseki, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, reiterated his commitment to enhancing healthcare accessibility for all residents of Edo State.
