Iowa State will defend its status as Big 12 champions as its latest wrestling season begins. The team hosts Stanford in its opener Friday night. 

Kevin Dresser returns for another year for the sixth-ranked Cyclones, ready to coach the team to another title. Iowa State will have top-tier wrestlers, including three-time NCAA qualifier Evan Bockman, who transferred from Utah Valley. Iowa’s Aiden Riggins also made the move to Ames. 

Iowa State will also have Paniro Johnson, ranked 11th coming into the new season, while Yonger Bastida will compete for top honors. 

Ranked fourth in the Pac-12 Championships last season, No. 20 Stanford looks to go deep in its first year in the ACC. Stanford already won two matchups before facing Iowa State, with coach Chris Ayres leading the team.

Jack Consiglio recently earned his first career collegiate win, while multi-time NCAA qualifier Nick Stemmet is ready to have a fifth year to remember.
