For digital nomad Brent Hartinger and his husband, Michael Jensen, life has been smooth sailing since they both decided to work from cruises on their laptops.

With no fixed housing expenses, they found that they could allocate funds typically spent on lodging to the cruise itself.

Since uprooting their life to travel the world on cruises, the couple explored very different types of experiences – but never something quite as unique as a two-month cruise.

As they prepared for their longest cruise yet, from Barcelona back to Seattle, the traveller admitted he was slightly apprehensive.

“We’d never been on a ship for two months straight,” the Yahoo writer confessed.

Upon arrival at the cruise terminal, the first thing they were struck by was the frenzy of boarding.

“I’d forgotten how hectic it is to board a cruise ship,” he observed, humorously comparing the boarding time to the Titanic’s infamous sinking.

He explained: “Jesus, these people pack like they’re emigrating,” pointing out the large amounts of luggage some travellers brought along.

Once on board, he described the ship’s gaudy decor as reflective of a “middle-class American’s idea of class,” acknowledging his critical perspective while humorously attributing it to his mother’s influence.

After settling into their cabin, he noted: “It’s the smallest room we’ve lived in since we started nomading,” but was pleasantly surprised by the comfort of the bed and the amenities provided.

“I won’t need to wear my eye-mask,” he added, appreciating the darkness of the space once nighttime sets in.

Despite the initial surprise, Brent expressed excitement and curiosity about what the next two months would hold.

The writer concluded: “What will it be like, spending the next two months in this little room with a fantastic bed? There’s only one way to find out!”
