It was expected, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) reacted following the serious incidents which occurred following the Europa League match between Ajax Amsterdam and Maccabi Tel-Aviv, in the evening on Thursday.
In a text relayed by the British media Sky Sports, UEFA “strongly condemns the incidents and acts of violence which occurred Thursday evening in the city of Amsterdam before and after the match”. European football’s governing body adds that it “is confident that the relevant authorities will identify and charge as many of those responsible for these acts as possible.”
For its part, it announces that it “will examine all official reports, gather available evidence, evaluate it and decide on any other appropriate action in accordance with its regulatory framework”.
According to local police, 62 people were arrested Thursday evening in connection with this violence and at least five supporters had to be hospitalized. The Jewish state denounced a “premeditated anti-Semitic attack”. The Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs must go there, while a “relief mission” aimed at repatriating Israelis still there has been put in place.
