Jeremy Clarkson has been slammed on social media after he shared a snap of what looked like a huge Donald Trump effigy being burned at his pub, The Farmer’s Dog, in the Cotswolds
Jeremy Clarkson has caused a stir by incinerating an effigy resembling Donald Trump, provoking a furore amongst social media users. The 64 year old host of Clarkson’s Farm ignited the figure at his Cotswold’s pub, The Farmer’s Dog.
The model seemed to be kitted out in classic Trump attire, complete with a suit, red tie, and the signature blond coiffure while being consumed by flames. Clarkson captioned the incendiary image with: “Bonfire night at @thefarmersdogpub.”
He posted the picture shortly before it became official that Trump had overcome Democrat frontrunner Kamala Harris, securing his position as the 47th United States president.
Social media backlash ensued, with one user expressing their let-down, replying: “Extremely disappointed. At this point Clarkson has clearly lost it. This is absolutely rubbish and astonishing.”
Luck seemed to be on Clarkson’s side according to another, who declared: “Anyway… looking forward to voting for TRUMP today! Thought you supported the working class. We support Trump.”
A third commentator reflected on the support Trump has shown to farmers, stating: “Wild thing about this is that Trump actually supports farmers. Sigh, this is disappointing.”
Voices from the entertainment industry have been prominent post-US election results, with Riverdale actress Lili Reinhart notably turning to Twitter to voice her solidarity with the women who levelled sexual misconduct claims against the former star of The Apprentice, reports the Mirror.
She penned: “I cannot fathom the feeling of the women who came forward about their sexual assault at the hands of Trump. Seeing millions of people vote for their abuser. My heart absolutely breaks for these women. I believe you, and I am so sorry.”
When faced with a Donald Trump supporter telling her to “stay out of politics”, she hit back with a fiery retort, writing: “Suck my d**k.”
Meanwhile, rapper Cardi B, fresh from her appearance at Kamala Harris’ rally, was visibly upset on Instagram Live as she processed the election results. She then heatedly addressed a follower who suggested she should attend Donald Trump’s inauguration, exclaiming: “I swear to god I’m gonna f**k you up, get away from me! I’m sick of you! Burn your f**king hats motherf****r.”
Across the pond, Countdown’s Susie Dent took to social media, sharing: “Word of the day is ‘recrudescence’ (17th century): the return of something terrible after a time of reprieve.”
Carol Vorderman showed her agreement by retweeting Dent’s message on Wednesday.
However, not everyone was disheartened by the election outcome. Elon Musk expressed his optimism as he posted a photo on his account, showing him in conversation with the newly elected president.
Alongside the image, the Tesla Motors CEO wrote: “The future is gonna be so [fire emoji]”.
