After spending an evening mourning the “terrible” news that Donald Trump was elected back into office, Jimmy Kimmel began looking forward to what Trump’s second presidency may look like when he’s inaugurated in January.

During the Thursday (Nov. 7) Live broadcast, Kimmel pointed out that Trump may not have to pardon himself at all when he takes office as the Department of Justice is reportedly winding down the criminal cases they have against the former president to comply with the long-standing policy that states a sitting president cannot be convicted.

Instead, the Trump cabinet will reportedly have their sights on someone else: President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden.

“Don’t worry,” Kimmel told viewers. “James Comer, the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, is still on the important case of Hunter Biden.”

He shared a clip from Comer’s recent appearance on NewsMax where he was asked if he plans to pursue more charges against Hunter.

“We’re going to see what the new Trump Department of Justice wants to do,” Comer answered. “I fully expect Joe Biden to pardon his son. I think the most important thing for me, honestly, is that we hold people in the government accountable.”

“With one notable exception,” Kimmel joked, noting the irony of Comer’s statement. Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts earlier this year and could be facing two criminal cases with the DOJ relating to classified documents and the Jan. 6 insurrection.

The late night host appeared to sympathize with Hunter, who has been convicted on gun and federal tax-related charges this year. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre recently confirmed President Biden does not plan on pardoning his son.

“Poor Hunter Biden,” Kimmel said. He continued, “The saddest part is his father isn’t going to give him a pardon. If I was him, I’d start calling Trump daddy just to see if it sticks.”

This was one of the most positive things Kimmel has said about Trump’s second term in office. He even kicked off the show with a rather morbid comparison for viewers.

“The crazy thing is there are still two months before our long national nightmare even begins,” he said. “It’s like we’re standing in the middle of the road waiting for a bus to hit us but it’s still 40 miles away.”
