Joe Cole hails ‘very talented’ Chelsea player after his performance in 8-0 Conference League win
There were plenty of Chelsea individuals that put down a marker with their performance in this week’s 8-0 demolition of Noah in the Conference League.
The Blues delivered a ruthless eight-goal display on Thursday night to thrash Armenian club Noah in the Conference League group stages.
It’s a sign of the depth in the Chelsea squad this season that Enzo Maresca can make 11 changes in midweek and still watch his side win 8-0.
Next, the Blues host rivals Arsenal in the Premier League this Sunday. Chris Sutton has actually made a unique prediction for Chelsea versus Arsenal.
Joe Cole applauds Joao Felix’s Chelsea display vs Noah
Joe Cole singled out Chelsea’s Joao Felix for special praise after Thursday’s performance in the Conference League.
The 24-year-old attacker didn’t miss out on the goal fest by scoring two himself, including one beautiful finish with a chip over the goalkeeper.
When discussing Felix’s Chelsea display versus Noah, Cole told TNT Sports 1 (10:10pm, 7 November): “I thought he was brilliant, he applied himself.
“You have to remember with Joao, he was a big signing and a £100 million player at some point, his career has obviously gone here, there and everywhere but he’s very, very talented, he wants to make Chelsea his home.
“When he first came to the club I was blown away by how good his movement was. This is actually what he needs to take his game to the next level, finishing with that kind of composure. Once he can bring this to his game he can be a 20, 25-goal a season man.
“Everything else in his game is on point. He’s great on the half turn, he can give you an assist, he’s busy.
“He could be forgiven for feeling sorry for himself because he should be a starter with his quality. He’s given the manager a headache.”
Jason Cundy agreed Felix was superb in Chelsea’s victory over Noah. Unfortunately, he’s barely getting a look-in for the Premier League matches because he’s competing with Cole Palmer for the No.10 position.
Joao Felix quietly having a good season for Chelsea
It’s disappointing for Felix that he can’t get many minutes in the Blues’ league campaign right now. However, he deserves full credit to him for not sulking and still impressing whenever he does play, regardless of the competition.
Competition | Appearances (Starts) | Goals | Assists |
Premier League | 5 (0) | 1 | 0 |
Conference League | 3 (3) | 4 | 0 |
Carabao Cup | 2 (2) | 0 | 1 |
Chelsea fans raved about Felix’s latest masterclass in the Conference League, with some suggesting he needs more opportunities in the Premier League. Unless Maresca is prepared to play the versatile attacker on the wings, it does feel unlikely that he’ll get extra chances.
Felix has the potential to be great value for money as a £45m signing for the Blues in the summer, but the competition for places is making it tough for some high-profile players.
If Chelsea are going to compete across the board this season, there will come a time when this extra squad depth will come in very useful.
