Steven Ariong, Moroto – An independent team in Karamoja has launched a screening exercise to select officials who will be awarded Integrity Awards.
The award program, implemented by the Karamoja Anti-Corruption Coalition in partnership with ActionAid and the Anti-Corruption Coalition, aims to promote integrity among local government officials.
Dr. Mukisa Ayubu, the Executive Director of the Karamoja Anti-Corruption Coalition, said that they are targeting four categories of officials for the awards in each district. “We are giving awards in four categories: Frontline Service Awards, Management Service Awards, and Political Leaders Awards,” he said.
He emphasized that the selection process should be neutral and based on merit.
The Karamoja Anti-Corruption Coalition has been commended in the region for its efforts in the fight against corruption. With support from the Danish Embassy, the organization has trained more than 100 youth who are working as Anti-Corruption Monitors in the region.
This publication has learned that since the initiative began, there has been a significant reduction in corruption in the southern part of Karamoja.
