Lecturers at various universities in Nyeri County have vowed to continue their strike until the government clears their outstanding salaries.
The lecturers, who are members of the University Academic Staff Union (UASU), have been on strike for over a week, citing delayed payments and unmet salary agreements.
Speaking to the media, the lecturers emphasized that they would not return to work until the government fulfills its commitment to paying the overdue salaries, which have been pending for several months. “We are tired of waiting.
Our families are suffering, and our work is not being recognized,” said one of the lecturers, who requested to remain anonymous. They also expressed frustration over the lack of communication from the government and university administrations.
The strike has disrupted learning at universities in Nyeri, with students unable to attend lectures. The lecturers have also raised concerns about the poor state of the education system and inadequate funding for public universities.
As the strike continues, the lecturers have called on the government to prioritize education and honor the financial commitments made to academic staff.
The Ministry of Education has yet to respond to the strike, leaving students and staff in uncertainty.
