Amad scored two goals in his first start in five weeks for Man United against PAOK but went off injured.
Manchester United medical staff are still working to get Amad ready for the Premier League visit of Leicester on Sunday.
Amad scored twice in United’s Europa League win over PAOK on Thursday night but was forced off in the 81st minute. The 22-year-old, who made his first start in five weeks, said afterwards he was “fine”.
Luke Shaw has resumed team training after a three-month lay-off with a calf injury just as Ruben Amorim is about to arrive as the inaugural United head coach. Leny Yoro also started training in midweek after recovering from a metatarsal fracture he sustained in late July. Neither are expected to be involved against Leicester.
Kobbie Mainoo will not return from his hamstring injury until after the November internationals. Van Nistelrooy stressed the players’ returns are as much a positive for him as they are for Amorim.
“Yeah, also for me,” he clarified. “I have to say yesterday we had a lot of benefit from Christian (Eriksen) playing a good 30 minutes for (Manuel) Ugarte and Mason making his first mins back, that benefited us as well so glad that they’re back. And also for a little bit longer good Luke and Leny are on the pitch.
“Amad was assessed, still working on him to get him ready for Sunday. Hopefully it will work and Kobbie is also progressing in his injury he’s making thee right steps, not yet with the team, though, that needs a bit more time.”
Mason Mount and Antony returned from injury to make the squad against PAOK. Van Nistelrooy is likely to recall centre backs Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez after they were rested while Marcus Rashford could come back in if Amad is unavailable.
