Latest Manchester United news with Manuel Ugarte reacting to the Reds’ first Europa League victory of the 2024/25 campaign
Manuel Ugarte has sent an emotional Manchester United message following the Europa League win over PAOK. Amad Diallo grabbed a second-half brace to seal all three points as United won their first European game this season.
For the third consecutive match, Ugarte was in the starting XI having played just two minutes in the final three Premier League games of Erik ten Hag’s tenure. Interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy, however, seems to be a big fan with that sentiment likely to be reflected by new permanent head coach Ruben Amorim.
Prior to Ugarte’s move to Paris Saint-Germain, the duo worked together closely at Sporting CP for two years. Based on that, the Uruguay international will likely know Amorim’s system very well and will therefore not need too long to adapt.
Despite a slow start to his United career, Ugarte appears to now be getting to grips with England and he certainly has the backing of Van Nistelrooy in the short-term. “I am convinced about Manuel that he will be a great player for United,” he said in a press conference earlier this month.
“He had a very good performance yesterday and against Fenerbahce he had a good performance. I think of course, getting players in an early conclusion, players who are here for two or three months, we should be careful with that I think.”
“It’s a great signing, he is a very good player, professional, he has very specific qualities in midfield when he gets in between players and recover the ball for us to get us in attacking positions. Also on the ball, very decent, so I mean that he will be a very good player for this club. He wants to do well for this club and is very motivated to do so.”
Ugarte, meanwhile, has now sent the perfect message to United fans with a heartfelt message on social media. Reposting to a United Instagram update of the starting XI before the game, he captioned his story: “This is the way, strong at home and all together [red circle emoji].”
Ugarte delivered a strong midfield performance in his 65 minutes on the pitch and an understanding with Casemiro is clearly being built. Kobbie Mainoo meanwhile, is still recovering from injury though he will be keen to take one of the two midfield spots under Amorim.
