Meet The Man Behind President Ruto’s Classic Suits That Costs Up To 1 Million & How Makes Them
President William Ruto is renowned not only for his leadership but also for his sophisticated style, with his sharp suits often drawing admiration.
Behind these meticulously crafted outfits is 32-year-old Ashok Sunny, a Kenyan fashion designer whose journey to prominence is both inspiring and impressive.
Ashok’s passion for tailoring began humbly in Umoja estate, Nairobi County, where he launched his business at the age of 22.
Starting with a Ksh20,000 loan from his mother, he has since grown his venture into a thriving enterprise, now dressing some of Kenya’s most influential personalities.
His clientele includes former Director of Criminal Intelligence George Kinoti, billionaire Chandaria Group CEO Darshan Chandaria, and image consultant Mwenesi Musalia.
In an interview, Sunny shared that his craft is rooted in bespoke tailoring, a process that is both time-consuming and detail-oriented.
Unlike typical made-to-measure suits, which are often machine-assisted, Sunny’s work is entirely handmade, a tradition he follows meticulously.
Every suit starts with the client’s measurements and posture, which he drafts onto brown paper using traditional tools like chalk, a tape measure, and a set square.
A single suit can take nearly a month to complete, with a blazer requiring 50 hours and trousers taking an additional 25 hours, accumulating over 5,000 hand stitches.
Sunny’s suits range from Ksh60,000 to Ksh250,000, depending on the materials, with exclusive cashmere suits priced up to Ksh1 million.
His dedication to quality and precision has not only defined his career but has also made him a favorite among Kenya’s elite.
In his own words, any tailor who claims to complete a bespoke suit in less than a week is simply not delivering the authenticity of bespoke craftsmanship.
