The future of Mohamed Salah is uncertain, but it appears there is another wing wizard who is threatening to be even better than the Liverpool hero and Erling Haaland
A player who is being touted as a ‘replacement’ to Mohamed Salah is making Erling Haaland’s current numbers look average.
Versatile forward Omar Marmoush is enjoying a stunning campaign with Bundesliga giants Eintracht Frankfurt. The 25-year-old has already been identified as a possible ‘replacement’ for Salah, whose contract at Anfield expires next summer.
Marmoush sent another firm message to his admirers when he whipped in an inch-perfect free-kick off the underside of the crossbar to secure a 1-0 Europa League victory against Slavia Prague on Thursday night. As good as his performances have been, his numbers are more than matching his displays.
So much so, that they are absorbing the current figures Haaland is putting up at Manchester City.
Marmoush has contributed 13 goals and nine assists in 15 appearances in all competitions. Meanwhile, Haaland has netted 14 goals in 15 appearances in all competitions but is yet to contribute an assist.
When goal contributions are concerned, Marmoush is ahead of the Norwegian by eight goals. It’s a staggering figure which perfectly explains why he is already being touted for a move to Anfield.
His numbers are also higher than the man he could potentially succeed. Salah has recorded nine goals and nine assists in 16 appearances for Slot’s side so far.
Salah’s goals and assists have helped drive the Merseysiders to the top of the Premier League and the Champions League tables. If Salah was to walk away from the club at the end of his deal, ex-Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamman has already touted Marmoush as the perfect person to fill the void.
Speaking about Marmoush, Hamman said: “It will be difficult to follow Salah. I don’t think he has missed ten games in eight or nine years. So it will be difficult to follow him, but I would trust Marmoush to do it.”
Salah has been linked with a lucrative move to the Saudi Arabian Pro League, where Saudi champions Al-Hilal are said to be interested in him. When asked about his talisman’s future, Liverpool boss Arne Slot admitted he has little control over the situation.
The Dutchman recently said: “[His future] is not what I think about. The only thing I think about is he is so important for us. Scores important goals, works hard for the team.
“I’m hoping he can enjoy that feeling many, many, many more times. Especially if I’m here but also if I’m not here. I’m hoping he can do this many more times.
“He’s been incredible for Liverpool over the past eight years. He’s been incredible for us this season and I hope he can continue doing this for the rest of the season and maybe longer to come, but that’s up to him and the club to find the idea about the future.”
