Monty Don fans were thrilled as the presenter announced career news away from Gardeners’ World.

The horticulturist, 69, has helmed the BBC show since 2003 after succeeding Ground Force’s Alan Titchmarsh. Monty keeps himself busy when he’s not working on TV, from touring the UK to writing several books.

In an exciting new update, Monty revealed his book is available on shelves and online now. Accompanied by Derry Moore’s photography, Spanish Gardens documents Monty’s travels through the verdant gardens of Galicia, the Basque country and Barcelona.

He then heads south to the rugged tropical climes of Mallorca, Alicante, Andalucia, Malaga, and Seville. Sharing news of his new venture on Instagram, Monty wrote: “Published today!

“Derry Moores’s and my jaunt right around and through Spain visiting an amazing selection of gardens. Available at all self-respecting bookshops and online.”

Monty’s followers flooded the comments with supportive messages, revealing their plans to buy and read it.

One wrote: “Ordered my copy this morning. Can’t wait to read it.”

Another penned: “Sounds like the best Christmas present!” as a third posted: “Just saved my Christmas present dilemma! Thank you.”

Echoing this, a fourth added: “My birthday is in 2 weeks. Now I know what is my perfect present!” as another declared: “I strongly suspect that I’ll be getting this for my birthday next week.”

It comes after fans of Gardeners’ World expressed their sadness as Monty shared an update on the BBC programme.

In a joint post with the broadcaster, the BBC shared a sweet photo of the beloved presenter digging in his garden alongside his golden retriever Nigel.

Despite the heartwarming snap, the caption offered a devastating update about the gardening show.

It read: “The days may be getting shorter, but there’s still plenty to do at Longmeadow. Join us for our last show of the series this Friday at 8pm on BBC Two.”

With news of Gardeners’ World coming to an end, one wrote: “Oh it makes me so sad at the end of the season.”

Another agreed: “I’ve been dreading this day. I know you need to rest and enjoy yourselves, but hurry back. Going to re- watch the whole series to get me through the winter months.”

A third devastated viewer said: “So sad it’s the last one! Where has this year gone.”
