Four-Time Group 1 winner Luxembourg (Ire) (Camelot {GB}), whose finest hour came when landing the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown in 2022, has been retired and will join Coolmore’s National Hunt roster at Castlehyde Stud.
Trained by Aidan O’Brien, Luxembourg won seven times and amassed career earnings in excess of £2.7 million. He retires having earned a career-high rating of 123.
“We’re delighted to have Luxembourg join our team here in Castlehyde,” said Cathal Murphy. “He has a very similar profile to the much-missed Fame And Glory, in that he is a Group 1 winner at two, three, four and five and he is also from that wonderful Montjeu sire line.”
Murphy added, “Physically, he ticks every box, he has all the size, scope, strength and action you could ask for and he has shown incredible soundness and resilience throughout his extraordinary career. I have no doubt that Luxembourg will be a big hit with breeders.”
Luxembourg went unbeaten as a two-year-old, with his juvenile campaign culminating with victory in the Group 1 Futurity Trophy Stakes at Doncaster. He was also successful in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh and the Coronation Cup at Epsom. He was last seen finishing sixth behind Rebel’s Romance in the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Del Mar.
