A tense scene unfolded in Githurai as Detective Jane Mugoh apprehended a notorious gangster following a dramatic high-speed chase along the Thika Super Highway.
The suspect, allegedly involved in a multi-million shilling fraud, had evaded capture for over two years and was accused of orchestrating scams that defrauded unsuspecting Kenyans by posing as a Safaricom agent.
Authorities revealed that the suspect, along with accomplices, would impersonate representatives of the telecom company, tricking victims into paying large sums for “network boosters” to be installed on their properties.
After collecting the money, the group would disappear, leaving behind a string of defrauded individuals.
In a desperate attempt to secure his son’s freedom, the suspect’s father had even put up his land as collateral for bail.
However, when his son skipped court, the elderly man’s property was at risk of auction.
Acting on a tip, Detective Mugoh located the fugitive in Githurai. In the heat of pursuit, she left her unlocked vehicle behind with her valuables inside.
Remarkably, local residents guarded her belongings, a gesture of support she deeply appreciated.
Mugoh’s efforts ended successfully with the capture of the suspect, saving the father’s property.
Her story underscores both the risks of police work and the unexpected solidarity displayed by the Githurai community.
