Netflix has a twisted new doc on the unsolved JonBenét Ramsey case coming this month

It’s been called ‘one of the biggest cold cases in history’

Netflix has confirmed it has another documentary looking into the unsolved case of JonBenét Ramsey, which is coming later this month. Netflix already has a dramatised film titled Casting JonBenét, in which actors from her hometown offer perspectives on the 1996 murder.

The three part series, titled Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey, will re-examine what Netflix is calling the “one of the biggest cold cases in history”. It comes from director Joe Berlinger, who you might know from true crime series such as Conversations with a Killer and Crime Scene. It’s out on November 25th.

So, in the meantime, here’s what you need to know about the case and a first look at the Netflix show.

Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey will look at the story once again

The JonBenét Ramsey case started on Boxing Day of 1996, when her parents awoke to find their daughter missing, and a chilling ransom note in her place. Her father, John Ramsey, then discovered six-year-old JonBenét’s body in the basement, and it was later revealed she had been sexually assaulted and brutally murdered in the family home.

Local police were inexperienced in cases this big, and suspicion was turned straight onto the Ramsey family. Given the nature of the story, the media went wild for it – and the family members were number one suspects.

28 years later, and the case remains unsolved. Now, the new Netflix series looks to scrutinise the missteps of law enforcement and the media. It will highlight relatively straightforward measures that could potentially solve this haunting mystery.

As the series unfolds, it poses a critical question: Will Colorado authorities finally take the necessary actions to bring JonBenét Ramsey’s killer to justice and offer her family the peace they’ve long sought?
