The latest Chelsea injury news with Cole Palmer among three players doubtful to play Arsenal in the Premier League
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca could be without two key attackers for the Premier League clash at home to Arsenal. The Blues secured another three points in the Conference League last night with a dominant 8-0 victory over Noah, though some injury concerns remain.
Cole Palmer picked up a knee injury against Manchester United last Sunday which saw him miss training on Tuesday and Wednesday. As he has not been named in their European squad, Palmer was guaranteed to miss Thursday’s clash with Jadon Sancho also absent.
The 24-year-old has missed the last few weeks because of several issues, with the latest a knock that makes him a doubt to face the Gunners. Elsewhere, Enzo Fernandez was withdrawn early against Noah with Maresca later explaining his decision.
With that said, football.london takes a look at the latest Chelsea injury news and return dates before the London derby against Arsenal.
Cole Palmer
Injury: Knee
Palmer was left in some discomfort after being fouled by Lisandro Martinez with the Manchester United defender catching him on the knee with his studs. Palmer required ice on the area in the dressing room and as of Wednesday, had not trained. He has, however, since been included in England’s squad for their upcoming Nations League fixtures.
What Maresca said: “He didn’t train yesterday [Tuesday], so we will see today if he is able to train with us. Hopefully [he will be available to face Arsenal]. We hope so. But we need to wait, we need to see and then decide.”
Possible return date: Arsenal (H) – Sunday, November 10.
Jadon Sancho
Injury: Unknown
Sancho has missed the last four Chelsea games for a number of reasons. For the Premier League clash against Newcastle, he was replaced in the starting XI by Pedro Neto.
Illness then saw him miss the Carabao Cup clash against the same opponents with his absence the following weekend against Manchester United due to being ineligible to face his parent club. Maresca has also revealed a knock kept him out of the Conference League clash with Noah.
What Maresca said: “He is recovering from [illness]. He had a knock in the session. He is out for tomorrow, and we will see if he is available [this weekend] or after the international break.”
Possible return date: Arsenal (H) – Sunday, November 10.
Enzo Fernandez
Enzo Fernandez started the 8-0 Conference League win over Noah but was withdrawn at half time. The Argentine international, playing in a deeper role, picked up three assists with concerns arising when he was replaced by Cesare Casadei for the second half, however Maresca has clarified his decision was not due to injury.
What Maresca said: “He’s okay. It was just a technical decision. No more than that, he is okay.”
Possible return date: Arsenal (H) – Sunday, November 10.
Omari Kellyman
Summer signing Omari Kellyman has missed the last few months with a hamstring injury. football.london reported at the time he was aiming to return in November with a loan move in January on the cards.
On Instagram, he wrote: “Gutted to have suffered another long hamstring injury [broken heart emoji] Part of the game but I’ll be back stronger [bicep emoji].”
Possible return date: November.
