Arsenal are set to face Chelsea in a huge game as they aim to end their bad run of recent form.

Mikel Arteta’s side have had to navigate several tough matches since the last International break, but they failed to impress as they lost to Bournemouth, Newcastle and Inter Milan away from home.

They face another away game, this time at Stamford Bridge against bitter rivals Chelsea, and a loss could be the nail in the coffin for their title hopes this season.

Both sides are facing key injury doubts, and one could be particularly crucial for the hosts, as Cole Palmer could be set to miss the game, which should raise Arsenal’s chances of victory.

Paul Merson claims Arsenal will beat Chelsea if Cole Palmer absent

Arsenal icon Paul Merson, who also played for Chelsea, has now told Sportskeeda that the Gunners will win at Stamford Bridge if Palmer is not fit to play.

“Arsenal win this game if Cole Palmer doesn’t play, it’s as simple as that,” Merson claimed.

“The only way Chelsea have a chance is if Palmer plays from the start. He is the heartbeat and he makes everything happen for Chelsea.”

Palmer picked up an injury against Manchester United last week, and it is unclear whether he will recover to face Arsenal.

Martin Odegaard returned from injury against Inter Milan at the best possible time, with Arsenal struggling in his absence, and Chelsea could face a similar dip in form if they lose Palmer.

Cole Palmer’s record against Arsenal

Palmer has been outstanding since joining Chelsea from Manchester City last year, and he has put Arsenal to the sword before.

Prior to his move last year, Palmer scored against Arsenal in the Community Shield, which Arsenal went on to win.

Palmer also netted a penalty in a 2-2 draw with Arsenal last year, but he missed the reverse fixture at the Emirates, which Arsenal won 5-0.

The England star is easily Chelsea’s best player, and Arsenal will fancy their chances at recording a much-needed win if he is indeed absent.
