Paul Scholes Suggests 48-Year-Old Coach Deserves to Be Man United Boss Ahead of Ruben Amorim

Manchester United icon Paul Scholes has made an unexpected recommendation, arguing that Ruud van Nistelrooy should become the club’s permanent manager, as reported by Sportskeeda. This statement comes just before the much-anticipated arrival of Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford.

Scholes’ endorsement of Van Nistelrooy follows the Dutchman’s successful run as interim manager, during which he has guided the team to three unbeaten matches, including a notable 5-2 victory over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup and a 2-0 win against POAK in the Europa League.

After the recent victory over POAK, Scholes praised Van Nistelrooy’s managerial abilities, highlighting his accomplishments at PSV Eindhoven, where he secured the Johan Cruyff Shield and the KNVB Cup. “I think he should be manager,” Scholes remarked. “Having watched him in three games, he performed well in Holland, winning the Dutch Cup and other honors. He seems destined for management and deserves more than just an assistant role.”

Van Nistelrooy’s experience as an assistant coach under Erik ten Hag has prepared him for a managerial position, and Scholes believes he has the potential to thrive as Manchester United’s permanent manager. Nevertheless, with Amorim’s imminent arrival, Van Nistelrooy’s future with the club is uncertain.

Scholes also expressed confidence in Rasmus Hojlund’s ability to succeed under Amorim, comparing him to Viktor Gyokeres, who flourished under the Portuguese coach at Sporting Lisbon. Although Hojlund has faced challenges since joining Manchester United, Scholes is optimistic about the young Danish striker’s potential as a goal-scorer.

While Scholes’ support may not directly impact the club’s decisions, it underscores Van Nistelrooy’s growing reputation as a capable manager. As Van Nistelrooy prepares for his final match as interim manager against Leicester City on Sunday, a positive outcome could bolster his case for the permanent position, but the confirmed appointment of Amorim raises questions about Van Nistelrooy’s future role.
