Real Madrid ace not thrilled by his makeshift role, only doing it for Ancelotti

Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni is not particularly motivated by the idea of playing as a centre-back in the future, according to recent reports from The Athletic.

Despite his versatility on the field, sources close to the French player have revealed that he prefers to focus on his natural role in midfield rather than being deployed in defence.

Tchouameni has not fully displayed his abilities this season, which his representatives attribute to being asked to play in a position that does not suit his strengths.

However, it is also clear that the Frenchman maintains a strong relationship with Real Madrid’s manager, Carlo Ancelotti, which is why he is willing to step up and play wherever needed for the team, but his main preference remains his role in midfield.

The scapegoat?

Tchouameni’s recent performance against AC Milan highlighted the challenges he faces when playing out of position. He struggled during the match and was involved in two of Milan’s three goals, which led to boos from the Bernabeu crowd.

This incident added further pressure on the young midfielder, with some questioning his future at the club. While it has been over two years since Tchouameni joined Madrid, he has not yet firmly established himself as a key figure in the team.

Much of this uncertainty has come from his frequent deployment as a makeshift central defender, which occurred on ten occasions last season due to injuries within the squad.

Despite the criticism, those close to the player are clear that he should not be blamed for Madrid’s recent struggles.

Not to be blamed

The team has faced difficulties with injuries and tactical adjustments, and Tchouameni has been caught in a defensive setup that does not fully play to his strengths.

Sources close to the player also believe that Madrid’s defensive issues stem from the attacking players positioned in front of him, which complicates the team’s overall balance.

As for Tchouameni’s future, it is still too early to make definitive judgments. His representatives understand the negative reaction from the fans at the Bernabeu as part of the high-pressure environment of top-level football.

Currently, he is sidelined due to an ankle injury and will miss several upcoming matches. Now, it remains uncertain when he will be fit enough to return, with the possibility of missing matches against Girona and Atalanta as well.
