RIP: What an Eldoret Man Found on His Cheating Wife’s Phone Before Killing Her in Broad Daylight
Lately, cases of married partners killing each other over claims of infidelity have been on the rise in Kenya.
In Eldoret, a man who killed his wife in a fit of rage after suspecting her of infidelity has been sentenced to three years of probation by the High Court.
The incident occurred when Shaban Marrow Bilali, 45, confronted his wife over a video on her phone that he believed showed her engaging in sexual acts with another man.
Despite her denial of the allegations, the confrontation escalated, and Bilali attacked her with a walking stick in an attempt to force a confession. Photo: courtesy of Nation Newspaper
After the assault, Bilali administered painkillers to his wife and left her to rest. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries shortly afterward at a nearby health centre.
Bilali later reported the incident to authorities, leading to his arrest and subsequent prosecution.
Initially charged with murder, his charge was reduced to manslaughter after he accepted responsibility and entered a plea bargain.
The court acknowledged the severity of the crime but considered mitigating factors, including Bilali’s remorse, his clean criminal record, and the impact of a custodial sentence on his young children, who had already lost their mother.
A report presented by a child welfare officer highlighted the emotional trauma faced by the children, who expressed their wish to remain with their father. As part of his sentence, Bilali must undergo psychosocial therapy aimed at addressing his actions and rebuilding trust with his children.
He will also be closely monitored by a probation officer, who will report to the court every six months.
The court revealed that the sentence is intended to rehabilitate Bilali while ensuring he remains present to support his children through this difficult time.
