Romeo Lavia shares ‘amazing’ Chelsea player sometimes shocks everyone in training with his quality
The Chelsea training sessions must be of extremely high quality this season due to the squad’s incredible strength in depth, and Romeo Lavia has explained that one teammate sometimes leaves everyone in shock of his ability.
Blues head coach Enzo Maresca is certainly fortunate to be working with such a great Chelsea squad. If you want an example of the group’s quality, there were 11 changes made to the starting line-up on Thursday night, and they ended up beating Noah 8-0 in the Conference League group stages.
Chelsea midfielder Romeo Lavia, 20, has held an interview this week where he’s made some interesting comments.
Incidentally, Lavia’s establishing himself as a key starter in Chelsea’s XI with recent performances, starting the three previous Premier League matches.
Romeo Lavia shares Moises Caicedo amazes in Chelsea training
Lavia has shared that Chelsea teammate Moises Caicedo is incredible to play alongside on a matchday, with the duo striking up a great partnership in midfield recently.
He further added that the 23-year-old’s stunning goal last weekend versus Manchester United wasn’t a shock because he’s regularly amazing everyone at Cobham on the training pitches.
“He’s (Caicedo) an amazing player. We’ve had a very good connection from day one. Now to be able to show that on the pitch is good. Hopefully we can carry on that way,” Lavia told Stadium Astro.
When asked if he was surprised by Caicedo’s volley against Man United last Sunday, Lavia added: “He’s got a shot in him to be honest. It was a difficult shot. The way the ball comes back it’s not easy and it happens a lot to midfielders. He took it so well… No [I wasn’t surprised], because he does it a lot in training where you’re not expecting it and he has that crazy shot and everyone is like wow.”
Troy Deeney said Caicedo enjoyed his best Chelsea game last time out against Man United, where he scored the remarkable volley from outside the penalty box. It’s interesting to hear it’s not the first time he’s done something breathtaking.
Should Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo shoot more?
Darren Bent really likes the new-look Chelsea midfield of Lavia and Caicedo, which does seem to have an excellent balance. While Lavia sits a bit deeper as a No.6 dictating possession and protecting the backline, Caicedo can use his engine in the No.8 position to get up and down.
It might be interesting to see Maresca encourage Caicedo to shoot a bit more if he’s got the talent in his boots.
Fotmob data does highlight that the Ecuador international is quite shy when it comes to shooting:
Player | Shots per 90 |
Joao Felix | 5.3 |
Christopher Nkunku | 4.1 |
Noni Madueke | 3.5 |
Cole Palmer | 3.3 |
Nicolas Jackson | 2.6 |
Pedro Neto | 1.9 |
Renato Veiga | 1.6 |
Malo Gusto | 1.4 |
Enzo Fernanedez | 0.8 |
Mykhailo Mudryk | 0.7 |
Moises Caicedo | 0.6 |
Jadon Sancho | 0.3 |
Levi Colwill | 0.3 |
Marc Cucurella | 0.1 |
Wesley Fofana | 0.1 |
Caicedo is developing into a mega star in this Chelsea XI with consistently superb performances. If he can chip in with five to seven goals per season as well, it’ll help justify his mega £115m price tag.
