Demand skyrockets
AMD’s gaming processor, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, has sold out worldwide with demand outpacing supply across major markets.
According to 3DCenter.org reveal that retailers across Europe have been overwhelmed by demand, with shipments selling out before even hitting shelves.
Euro retailers such as Arlt, Alternate, Alza, Caseking, Hardwarecamp24, Mindfactory, and Notebooksbiliger all say that they have exhausted their supplies. At time of writing only Computer Universe had limited stock and is pricing the 9800X3D at €498.
In the UK, most suppliers including Orbit, Scan, and AWD-IT are also sold out. CLL has a few units, priced at €519.99.
Mindfactory said it had to cancel pre-orders due to an inability to fulfill them and future shipments are pre-sold before arrival.
Across the pond, the US market faces similar shortages and there is a thriving scalper business going. You can pick one up on eBay for more than 50 per cent above its suggested retail price. Some of the only reliable availability appears to be at select MicroCenter physical locations.
For those not in the know the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is a Zen 5-based processor which exceeded AMD’s own performance claims, demonstrating a 15 per cent increase in speed over its predecessor, the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, mirroring the improvement seen in previous generations.
Against Intel’s top Raptor Lake and Arrow Lake models, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is reportedly over 40 per cent faster, positioning it as a dominant choice for gamers seeking cutting-edge performance.
