As one way of promoting child registration in Malawi the Community of Sant’Egidio under the Birth Registration for All versus Oblivion (Bravo) program has launched a book titled ‘Being Born is Not Enough’.
Bravo National Coordinator, Potiphar Magombo, said the book outlines challenges children without official recognition such as legal identity face.
Magombo cited that lack of legal identity is the root cause of child exploitation as children are exposed to risky conditions such as human trafficking, prostitution and becoming child soldiers in other countries.
Noel Chikhungu, Director of the National Registration Bureau, welcomed the BRAVO initiative saying it will among other things, help to raise awareness among parents about the importance of registering their children at birth.
