Sarafina Robi Pens An Emotional Message As She Lands Plum Job at BBC

Famous journalist Sarafina Robi has shared an emotional farewell message after landing a prestigious role at the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), marking the end of her five-year tenure at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).

Sarafina, who anchored news on KBC TV every Monday and Tuesday, focused on environmental, scientific, and human interest stories. In an Instagram post announcing her departure, Sarafina reflected on her time at KBC with deep gratitude and emotion.

“I still remember the first time I received a call to start working at KBC, I was so excited I cried so much! For six years, I have met people who have shaped me into the journalist I am today. Today I cried a lot saying goodbye because I am not so good at goodbyes and I had gotten pretty attached to the national broadcaster,” she shared.

Sarafina expressed her heartfelt thanks to KBC for playing a pivotal role in her professional growth. “KBC has taught me the importance of professionalism and has given me a solid work ethic,” she said. “I will miss it, but we’ll meet again in the field.”

With extensive experience in multimedia journalism, Sarafina has covered a wide range of topics, including environment, science, health, and technology. She also made history as the first Kenyan journalist to interview Chief Justice Martha Koome.

In 2024, Sarafina was nominated for the prestigious Journalism Excellence Awards in the Development and Public Relations reporting category. Beyond her journalism career, she is actively involved in a non-governmental organisation that advocates for girls’ and boys’ empowerment and fights against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

Sarafina’s new position at the BBC marks a significant milestone in her career, as she continues to build her reputation as a versatile and impactful journalist.
