Scottish darts star could face GIRLFRIEND in ‘awkward’ World Champs match as he admits ‘I don’t think I’d enjoy that’

THEY’VE been called darts’ golden couple – and they could just be on a collision course at next month’s World Darts Championship.

Scottish darts star Cameron Menzies booked his spot at Ally Pally through the Pro Tour Order of Merit – and he’s in great form after recently claiming his first PDC rankings title by beating Stephen Bunting to win the Players Championship.

Trail blazer Sherrock, 30, landed her place through the PDC Women‘s Series.

And Dutch darts star Vincent van der Voort isn’t the only one anticipating a “spicy and awkward encounter” between the loved-up pair at Ally Pally.

We won’t know the first round draw until early December.

Van der Voort told the Darts Draait Door podcast: “It would be really wonderful if boyfriend and girlfriend had to play each other at the World Championships.

“And not in the second round only, but right in the first round.

“It’s great because prior to that spicy encounter you live in the same house for two and a half weeks while you know you have to compete against each other.

“That’s still separate and awkward all the same. But I would find it the most fun scenario.

“There will always be extra tension on a match like this, because you have to play the person who has been with you all day.

“Then you hope for a loss for the other person, but you can get it yourself in this situation.”

Menzies and Sherrock got together in 2021 – with their first date in KC and moved in together a year later.

He replied: “We’ve spoken about this a few times and obviously a few of my mates have brought it up …. but I don’t think I would enjoy that game.”

Having said all that, while Menzies has paid glowing tribute to his girlfiend in the past he reckons HE is the better player IF he could handle the spotlight better.

He has said: “She helps me tremendously.

“When we were dating in the beginning, I was in Scotland a lot and she was in England.

“But we often played against each other by video calling during practice sessions. And we still do practise together a lot.

“Honestly, without her I wouldn’t be where I am today. She also keeps pressing me to train because we both get lazy if we don’t practise.

“Who is the better of the two of us? I think I’m a tad better, but she’s better on stage when you’re in the spotlight. She just handles that better.”

Menzies could still face a fine from the Darts Regulation Authority for referring to himself as a “fat f***” during his triumph over Bunting.

History-maker Sherrock will compete at her fifth PDC World Darts Championship in December.

In 2019, Sherrock became the first female player to win a match at the Alexandra Palace tournament.

But Menzies also reckons this has been best year as a pro by some distance. He said: “This has been my best year so far.

“I’ve got a lot more experienced from playing against the better players. Hopefully that will make a difference this year and I will be out of the group.
