Mary’s journey to the U.S. began in 2008 when her online partner, a man she believed to be loving and supportive, processed the immigration paperwork for her and her child.

She was excited to join him and start a new life together. However, when Mary arrived at Detroit Airport, her expectations were quickly shattered.

The man who picked her up appeared distant and cold, a stark contrast to the person she had been talking to online.

During the drive home, he barely spoke, leaving her confused and uneasy about what lay ahead.

When they arrived at his house, Mary was greeted by an unexpected and uncomfortable sight.

She was shown to a cluttered room covered in newspapers and other mess, far from the welcoming home she had envisioned.
