Susanna Reid’s clash with Donald Trump’s Home Alone co-star branded ‘car crash TV’

Susanna Reid and Ed Balls’ interview with Home Alone actor Rob Schneider has been branded a ‘car crash’ and ‘train wreck’.

Good Morning Britain viewers were left stunned watching the clash unfold, moments after Donald Trump declared he won a ‘magnificent victory for the American people’.

Contraversial actor Schneider, 61, who has promoted an anti-vax stance and been accused of transphobic comments in the past, was shut down moments into the interview after Reid was forced to step in.

He first announced he was ‘celebrating’ the electoral verdict, before attacking a former GMB guest, Mehdi Hasan.

‘First I have to talk about Mehdi Hasan continuing this slamming and slandering of our President,’ he said, branding the comments ‘elitist nonsense’, and accusing Hasan of allegedly making comments about non-Muslims and gay people.

‘Sorry, I can’t… Mehdi Hasan has made an attack on Donald Trump and
I understand you want to take issue with that but please don’t turn this into a personal attack with Mehdi Hasan who is not here to address your comments,’ Susanna interrupted with, as Ed tried to steer Schneider back on topic.

The comedian, who played the bellboy in Home Alone 2 alongside Trump in 1992, went on to talk over the hosts, and at one point said they’d accused Trump of being ‘racist’, before attempting to defend the accusation by saying: ‘That’s funny because it was a black man that helped elect him tonight and it was a clean sweep.’

Ed interrupted to clarify what he had been saying, before both he and Susanna laughed that ‘neither of us have uttered those words’, after Schneider claimed they’d used the word ‘misogyny’.

‘Neither of us used the word misogyny Rob, are you sure you were watching our programme?’ Ed hit back with.

With the conversation straying far from topic, Schneider said back: ‘I’ll bet you £10,000.’

With Susanna laughing beside him, Ed said: ‘I feel like we’re on Saturday Night Live here, Rob, are we on Home Alone 4? I think this interview has taken a bit of a turn.’

Ed urged Schneider to ‘move on’ but the actor went on to claim he had heard something said ‘off camera’ between the two presenters ‘attacking’ Trump.

Viewers were baffled by both Schneider’s responses and the hosts, accusing them of talking over the guest.

‘@RobSchneider calling out @susannareid100 & @edballs. The absolute meltdown, the anger of the losers is palpable. Rattles and dummies everywhere,’ @Highlandlass0 said.

‘The @GMB meltdown is box office. Inject it into my veins,’ @youngbart wrote.

‘Watch the Rob Schneider interview on GMB if you haven’t already. Chefs kiss stuff,’ @Iwasvvdrunk said.

‘That was a disaster! As much I might disagree with most of what Rob Schneider said, the way Ed Balls just kept talking over him was infuriating. Amazed he didn’t just walk off,’ @geordiegalg said.

‘This is a pathetic interview with Rob Schneider, he’s just an angry small man that spews out nonsense,’ @KittyDotty meanwhile fumed, while @KayleighEsk said: ‘This Rob Schneider interview is car crash TV at its finest!’

‘What an embarrassing interview,’ viewer Michelle said on X, while user two-fish-in-a-tank said: ‘@GMB embarrassing interview with Rob Schneider, I don’t agree with him but let him speak.’

‘Well this Rob Schneider interview is just a train wreck,’ Jaimi said, as account Dark Arts FC echoed: ‘Car crash interview here from Rob Schneider.’

The interview ended with Schneider predicting it would be ‘a good day for America’, as Susanna thanked him for the ‘interesting’ conversation.

The presenters were fronting the ITV programme live from America, where they aired Trump’s speech to his supporters, saying: ‘uccess is going to bring us together and we are going to start by all putting America first. We have to fix it because together we can truly make America great again for all Americans.

‘So I want to just tell you what a great honour this is. I want to thank you. I will not let you down.

‘America’s future will be bigger, better, bolder, richer, safer and stronger than it has ever been before.’
