For the 24 years he served as Kenya’s President, the late Daniel Arap Moi was a no-nonsense leader. Those who crossed his path were dealt with ruthlessly. And his former Aide-de-camp Brigadier ( Rtd) Wilson’s Boinett knows this better

Boinett is one of the two longest serving Moi’s ADCs, having been in the position for eight years each. But not even this long service to the late President could save Boinett from the President’s wrath.

It all appeared well for Moi and Boinett before a foreign trip when the ADC picked up a quarrel with the then powerful cabinet minister, Nicholas Biwott, a close ally of the President.

Irked by the development, Moi fired his ADC and demoted him to the position of military attache in Zambia.

In 1996, Boinett bounced back when he was appointed by Moi as the head of Special Branch ( SB). At the time, SB was a department of Police.

SB would later be transformed and birthed today’s National Intelligence Service, which is more professional.

Boinett fell out with the government of the late President Mwai Kibaki and was replaced by Major General ( Rtd) Michael Gichangi.
