The ‘perfect party top’ from Marks & Spencer was flying off the rails. It was said to be ‘refreshingly different’ and have ‘just enough sparkle’ to avoid ‘looking like a sweet wrapper’.

M&S said the Autograph top was crafted from sparkly fabric for a “truly glamorous day-to-evening look”. It had been designed in a regular fit with a “flattering” wrap front and “elegant” slash neckline. The top also had added stretch for “extra comfort”.

Shoppers could pick up the £35 top in two colours – a silver mix or aqua mix. Sizes eight to 24 were currently available online, however people were warned it ‘fits a little small’.

One five star review for the Sparkly Slash Neck Wrap Detail Top read: ” This is a cute top for jeans when you want to dress your jeans up a bit, but not too much. Would look dressier with smart trousers or a skirt.” Another said: “Perfect party top, of high quality and very warm. Excellent fit.”

Jillyn added: “Good shape, not too short, sleeves good length, bargain.” A shopper who bought the top in aqua mix wrote: “Love the colour, and looks great with wide leg crepe trousers – also bought in store from M&S. I looked at the reviews and bought the next size up (16), I was concerned that it may be too big across the shoulders, but delighted it’s a perfect fit and not too clingy!”

A four-star review stated: “Bought to go with M&S blue velvet trousers and jacket, and it’s a good match. Quite a flattering style and a good length for midriff coverage. Just enough sparkle without looking like a sweetie wrapper or Christmas tree decoration.”

Shelley said the top was “refreshingly different”. She added: “Liked the sparkle, the colour and the neckline. An easy garment to pack as no ironing required should be quite useful during the festive season.” Although one shopper thought it was a “beautiful top”, they said: “Unfortunately, I found it very itchy so sadly returning.”
