The President of the Peruvian Football Federation, Agustin Lozano, was arrested on charges of involvement in a criminal organization, Infobae reports.
According to the source, Lozano was the leader of the Los Galacticos criminal group. The functionary was also charged with illegal enrichment to the detriment of the state, abuse of official position and money laundering in the resale of tickets for matches of the Peruvian national team during the 2018 World Cup qualifying tournament in Russia.
It is noted that Lozano and other participants in the process face up to 20 years in prison.
The Peruvian national team ranks ninth in the table of the South American qualifying group for the 2026 World Cup. The team has 6 points in 10 matches. The Peruvians will play in November against the national teams of Chile (November 15) and Argentina (November 19).
