The Princess Royal and King Charles showcase their close bond as Anne steps in for Queen Camilla at a Paris Olympics reception
It’s been a difficult week for King Charles with his wife Queen Camilla temporarily stepping back from royal duties due to health concerns. The Queen was expected to accompany the King on Wednesday for a Buckingham Palace reception celebrating the accomplishments of Team GB in this summer’s 2024 Paris Olympics, but has been sidelined by a chest infection. Come forward, Princess Anne.
King Charles’ sister has long been the true rock of the royal family, and the Princess Royal has once again showcased the strong bond she shares with the monarch, joining him at the palace to receive the country’s sporting stars.
Whilst meeting athletes at the reception, Charles revealed that he is no stranger to putting the effort in. The King, who is still undergoing weekly cancer treatment, shared his impressive exercise schedule in a conversation with Britain’s Olympic medallists. His regime, the same as his father Prince Philip, is based on the Royal Canadian Air Force’s 5BX routine.
Speaking to GB’s women’s athletics team, including sprinter Desirèe Henry, King Charles detailed how he ‘squats and does the pull-up bar’ as a part of the 11-minute circuit, which he does twice a day, according to MailOnline.
Clearly a fan of watching sport, as well as participating, the monarch told Dame Sarah Storey, Britain’s most decorated Paralympian, that he was looking forward to seeing her get her skates on when she takes part in the next season of Dancing on Ice. The cyclist and swimmer, who has won 19 gold medals across her illustrious career, announced that she would be taking part in the competition this October.
