The video showed a hidden window shutter in Fernbank House
A TIKTOK showing a hidden feature of a historical Limerick building has gone viral, with over 2.6million views and 48.1 thousand likes in less than a week.
The TikTok video, created by Dr Paul O’Brien, shows a secret sliding sash window shutter in Limerick’s Fernbank House that has been “hidden for over 100 years”, according to the local historian.
The house was built circa 1860, he explained on his X page, adding: “It was home to Mrs Cleeve in 1920 when it was sold to the Salesians”.
In the caption of his post on X, he also said: “Even though the interior of Fernbank is in perfect condition, Limerick 2030 are proposing to demolish it as part of their plan”.
Speaking to Newsweek, Dr O’Brien spoke of his exploration of the building and the discovery of the hidden shutter: “The nun beside us said she’d lived in the house for over 50 years and never spotted the hidden shutters before”.
The nun who accompanied him on his tour of the historical residence theorised that the last person to open the shutters would likely have been a servant of Lady Cleeve in 1920.
