“Total Indoctrination”: People Are Sharing The Wildest Things Their Republican Family Or Friends Said In An Argument
I can’t believe people actually think this way.
Ever since Trump got into politics, it feels like each election cycle is as divisive as the one prior. The 2024 election cycle hasn’t been different in that sense, but it does feel like the hate-filled rhetoric has been amplified.
The tried and true Trump supporters have, unfortunately, been continuing to push wild conspiracy theories as fact and attempting to cope with the idea that Trump could possibly lose the election to America’s first Black and South Asian woman president.
If we’re being honest, this isn’t anything new, and Republicans have touted some ridiculous arguments online and in real life that have underlined the dangers of Trump’s second term. In fact, these talking points have not only divided Americans but friends and family, too.
I recently asked the BuzzFeed Community to tell me some of the wildest things their Republican friends and family members have said. Here are their responses:
Hot Topic
Let’s chat about all things 2024 Election
1. “‘Ignore the facts’ – my father-in-law to my husband.”
2. “‘But Trump is a good President! He made us money!!’”
3. “My conservative sister was complaining about SoCal schools requiring Critical Race Theory in the curriculum. I asked her what she thought they were teaching. She answered that they were teaching white kids to feel guilty about being white.”
4. “That liberal schools are giving students litter boxes in bathrooms to use.”
5. “My uncle was insisting to me that the Queen of France laughs at Biden and only respects Trump. I did not mistype that. He said the Queen of France.”
6. “That Kamala Harris is a ‘call girl.'”
7. “Anyone who thinks any city in the US has LITERALLY burnt to the ground due to protests is absolutely lost at this point. My father tried to tell me that Portland was ‘wiped off the map’ when the riots and CHAZ happened, so naturally, I was like, ‘What the f*ck is wrong with you?'”
8. “It sounds like a cliche now, but during Trump’s first term, after some minor perceived victory, they said, ‘YES! We’re fighting the good fight buddy!’ I asked, ‘What fight was that?'”
“Without a single facial expression, they said, ‘The one that puts white people back on top.’ I pointed out how shamelessly racist that is, and they said back, ‘No, it isn’t because they don’t deserve this country anyway.’ I reiterated that is exactly what racism is, and they just gave a very childish, ‘No, it isn’t!’ Total indoctrination!”

9. “I told my grandmother (84, German immigrant who married a soldier who fought in Korea and Vietnam) that I was surprised that the fact that Trump is a draft dodger didn’t bother her, considering my grandfather’s history. She got upset and said, ‘And you don’t think Kamala isn’t?! She absolutely dodged the draft, but she lied about it!'”
“I tried to calmly explain that A) Kamala is a woman and, therefore, would not have been drafted then, and B) she was not alive for the draft, which only upset my grandmother more. So, she asked me why I wasn’t voting for Trump, and I said, ‘As a victim of sexual assault, I can not support a man who behaves like Donald Trump.’ She said, ‘What sexual assault?’ And I answered honestly, ‘I was molested when I was young and raped two years ago.’ Her response? ‘Oh, boo-hoo! My brother used to punch me in the face, you need to get over that sh*t!’ All because I said I didn’t like Donald Trump as a person. Also, her brother never punched her in the face, they were best friends.”

10. “My friend said that Kamala is a secret lizard person and is here to take over Earth.”
–Anonymous, New York
11. “She was LITERALLY arguing that Biden controlled the weather.”
“My mother-in-law posted an article right after Hurricane Helene hit about a $90 million federal grant being awarded to start a lithium mining operation in a city that was decimated by the storm. Her caption was, ‘WAIT, $90 MILLION TO MINE THE LAND BUT NOWHERE NEAR THAT TO ACTUALLY HELP THE AREA?!’ Someone quickly pointed out that the article was from 2023… she then pivoted and argued that, regardless, the destruction was all a government scheme just so they could have their way with the land. She was LITERALLY arguing that Biden controlled the weather.”

12. “I heard my grandfather (94) say last week that, and I quote, ‘transgenders are taking our school children and sacrificing them to Satan for their changing ritual.’ (Btw I’m trans myself) Wild sh*t goes down in the remote places of PA; it isn’t called Pennsyltucky for nothing, lol.”
–Anonymous, Pennsylvania
13. “A co-worker told me he set his AR-15 on his front porch by itself for 3 hours, and it didn’t kill anyone. This was in an attempt to prove that guns don’t kill people. This is not the first time I’ve heard a similar argument, so I’m guessing it is something the NRA or other MAGA types think is a winning statement.”
–Anonymous, Mississippi
14. “‘I would rather have a rapist as president than Hilary Clinton’ as he was sitting at a table with multiple women, one of whom was a rape survivor.”
–Anonymous, Indiana
15. “My dad has said, among other things, that January 6th was the fault of Capitol security and the DC police because they should have just known it was going to happen and chose not to prepare for it.”
“And that both sides are the same and all Trump ever did was ‘listen to his advisers.’ And that every egregious thing Trump has said or done has some counterbalancing act of equal outrage from Harris, which he can never name.”
–Anonymous, Kansas
16. “That McDonald’s puts aborted fetuses in their burgers.”
–Anonymous, Maryland
17. “My future son-in-law and I were discussing what BS it was that Republicans said slaves got benefits. When my brother-in-law stated, ‘They weren’t slaves because their own people sold them to us.’ It took everything we had not to laugh.”
–Anonymous, Wisconsin
18. And finally, “‘Democrats drink baby blood to stay young.'”
