Tottenham dealt blow in their pursuit of midfielder with 43 goals & 37 assists as Romano shares update
Tottenham’s hopes of signing AC Milan’s midfield standout Tijjani Reijnders may have hit a setback, as the Italian club reportedly progresses in negotiations to extend the Dutch international’s contract.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently shared on X that Milan are advancing in discussions with Reijnders, a move that could thwart both Tottenham and Liverpool, who had shown interest in a potential January transfer.
Romano shared the following update:
“AC Milan and Tijjani Reijnders, progressing in talks over new contract. He’s key part of Milan project, new deal is main topic now as exclusively revealed.”

Securing this extended deal would solidify Reijnders’ future at San Siro and make any move to North London increasingly challenging.
Reijnders joined Milan from AZ Alkmaar last year and quickly became a crucial part of the squad. His debut season saw him appear in 50 matches across all competitions, tallying four goals and four assists, demonstrating versatility and consistency.
The Dutchman has elevated his game this season, already contributing four goals and two assists in just 13 appearances. His latest standout performance was in Milan’s 3-1 win over Real Madrid, where he shined in midfield and added a crucial goal.
His overall career tally is now 43 goals and 37 assists across all competitions and levels.
Under manager Paulo Fonseca, Reijnders has emerged as a highly sought-after player in Europe, known for his mobility and offensive instincts.
His impressive performances have solidified his position as a key figure in Milan’s midfield, and the Dutch international has voiced satisfaction with his current role. This contentment, paired with Milan’s intent to offer a contract extension, may keep him at San Siro for the foreseeable future.
Tottenham face setback in pursuit of Reijnders
For Tottenham, missing out on Reijnders would be a blow as the club seeks to bolster their midfield. Despite bolstering their midfield with the signing of Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall in the summer, Spurs remained interested in signing another central midfielder, and were linked with the Conor Gallagher as well as Aston Villa’s Jacob Ramsey.
They even made a player-plus-cash offer for Ramsey, including Lo Celso as part of the deal, however, the offer was rejected.
Reports suggest that the club continue to monitor the Aston Villa midfielder and would pounce on a chance to sign him in the upcoming transfer windows.
