Rayo Vallecano-Las Palmas will be Oscar Trejo‘s first chance to reach 300 appearances for the Madrid side. The player from Santiago del Estero, a true icon of the club over the last seven seasons, is barely featuring in a 2024-25 campaign in which his 36 years of age have begun to take their toll. The historical figure, which was close, has been moving away in this opening period of the championship.

The playmaker has ceased to count for an Inigo Perez who has several attacking options, including the Argentine. Randy Nteka has been the most used in his position so far in the domestic championship, but Trejo has also had to fight for playing timewith newcomer James and even with Pathe Ciss, as the coach has often decided to go for a more defensive line-up.

Trejo has only played four games so far this season, three in La Liga and one in the Copa del Rey, in which he scored his only goal of the campaign so far. Last season was already different for Trejo, who counted much less for his current coach than he did for Iraola. He finished the season without scoring or assisting, something that had never happened to him before in Vallecas.

Trejo had a good performance against Villamuriel in the Copa del Rey and, as his team did not play last matchday against Villarreal due to the effects of the DANA, that is still the most recent clash of the team. It is a question mark as to whether the Argentinian will have playing time against the Canaries and thus reach his 300th cap as a ‘Rayista’.

So far, in the 299 games he has played, the Boca Juniors-trained player, who also played in Spanish football for Mallorca, Sporting Gijon and Elche, has scored 41 goals and provided 24 assists. He is the 8th most capped player in Rayo Vallecano’s history and could soon catch both Anero (301) and Bordons (302), who are ahead of him in the standings. He is already 7th in terms of victories with 114 to his name and is also among the top 10 all-time goalscorers with 41.
