What Did John Oliver Say About His Teary Eyed Kamala Harris Endorsement?

Before the U.S. Election Day, talk show host John Oliver was seen seemingly getting emotional while endorsing Kamala Harris during a segment on Last Week Tonight’s episode. But after that, he appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and clarified what really happened during his teary-eyed endorsement video.

In the video, which can be seen below, Oliver backed Kamala Harris. But, what made the highlight was him seemingly holding back tears while asking people to vote for Harris.

The above video shows Oliver acknowledging how most of his airtime has been about why people shouldn’t vote for Donald Trump. But, he also states that he would be voting for Harris on the U.S. presidential election day on Tuesday. The moment that went viral was him getting a bit teary-eyed and saying, “Look, I love this country. I’m an immigrant. I chose to be here,” before confirming who he would be voting for.

However, speaking to Stephen Colbert on his talk show, he admitted to being astonished by how much coverage his clip had got. As Colbert mentioned headlines about a “Teary-eyed John Oliver” pleading with America, Oliver revealed what had happened. He confirmed that he wasn’t really weeping and said:

“I wasn’t crying…I’m British. I’m dead inside. There’s no functional emotion left in here. Centuries and centuries have rendered it moot.”

Then as Colbert offered him a tissue, Oliver added, “I don’t need it…I’m emotionally hard as nails!”
